Bayou Council
Girl Scouts - Bayou Council serves the parishes of: Acadia, Allen, Avoyelles, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, Evangeline, Iberia, Jefferson Davis, Lafayette, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Mary, Vermilion, Vernon.
Bayou Council's fifteen parishes are divided into twenty-seven geographic areas governed by local leadership. These areas are known as service units. Each service unit has an appointed service unit manager to guide and direct Girl Scouting in that area, through strong leadership within the service unit and by acting as an effective liaison between the community and the Girl Scouts.
During the registration year, the service unit manager ensures that area events and program services are provided to troops by securing volunteers to carry out specialized functions within the service unit. The service unit manager serves as the official Girl Scout representative to community groups and provides Bayou Council with vital community information.
The service unit also consists of other members that make up a service team. These committee members meet periodically to plan school recruitments, trainings, events, service projects, publicity, and mentoring matches for their area. As leaders gain experience, they are encouraged to become involved in this planning and delivery. In addition, community volunteers are sought to assume these important functions.
